My name is Jakob Goodwin, and I'm your current District 1 councilman. I'm a Scott native and a 2008 graduate of Acadiana High School. In 2014 I earned a bachelor's degree in Mathematics from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, and I've been a software engineer at Techneaux Technology Services for 12 years.
First and foremost, I'm a husband and a dad. Danielle and I have been married 15 years, and we're raising our two kids, Ender and Ezlyn, right here in Scott, where they both go to school. This is our home, and everything else I do comes back to that. A proud descendant of Cajun musicians, I learned to play the accordion and still enjoy playing. Soccer has been part of my life since I was three years old, and today I coach the Acadiana High School boys soccer team.
Outside the Council, I serve as president of Envision Scott, our chamber of commerce, and I'm working to preserve the Scott Historical and Genealogical Society's records so that our history stays in Scott. Before I served on the Council I served on our Planning Commission, and chaired it. Drainage studies, traffic counts, and whether a development's runoff ends up in a neighbor's yard. It is not exciting work. It is the work that decides what this city looks like long after we are gone.
I currently hold this seat by appointment. When District 1 came open in April, the mayor and council chose me to fill it, and I believe I earned that trust through years of committing myself to serving this city in so many other capacities.
I do not take that appointment for granted. The mayor and council members who chose me were elected into office by our citizens, and their decisions represent the voice of the people. With that said, it will mean all the more when the people of District 1 directly elect me into office. That is why I am asking for your vote on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
My focus as a councilman comes down to three words. Preserve. Plan. Progress.
Preserving our city's history and character. We were a railroad town before we were anything else, and we're now the Boudin Capital of the World. Our people, our food, and our Cajun heritage aren't decoration. They're the foundation everything else is built on, and our history should be something we live and celebrate.
Planning for our city's safety and welfare. Our growth can't outpace what our infrastructure can support. Drainage, roads, and utilities have to keep up with the homes and businesses we approve, and that means holding new development to standards that account for its real impact on the neighborhoods around it. I've voted against projects over infrastructure and safety concerns, and I'd do it again. Saying yes to the right projects means being willing to say no to the wrong ones.
Progressing our city's future and development. I want the heart of our city to be a place people go, not a place they pass through. I want our parks to grow along with us, so that wherever you live in Scott there's somewhere close by to take your kids. And I want our businesses to have room to grow in the areas we've already set aside for it, which strengthens our tax base and keeps that pressure off the neighborhoods that were never meant to carry it.
Scott is going to grow. What we decide now is what it grows into.
